Is Black Tea Good For You?

Black TeaBlack Tea is not one that I drink everyday, but there are times when I do occasionally crave its full-flavor over my other favorites. The difference with Black Tea is that it doesn't have the same compounds as the other teas. These compounds are called Theaflavins and Thearubigens.

Not only do they contribute to its distinctive taste and color, but also provide health benefits similar to other teas. Black tea comes in various flavors, the two best known are Earl Grey and English Breakfast.

There is a pretty consistent body of evidence suggesting there is definitely a benefit to drinking black tea. Black Tea is a very rich source of  the antioxidants called flavanoids which are said to have positive effects against many health related problems.

Black tea, as well as others, offer detoxifying effects that protect cells from free radicals, which are known to cause cancer and blood clot formation.

Studies have shown that regular black tea drinkers, people who drink two cups or more a day, have less heart disease and stroke, lower total and LDL (the bad) cholesterol.

Research has also shown that black tea may help boost metabolism to aid in weight loss, inhibit growth of tumors, fight bad breath, improve skin, protect against Parkinson's disease, and even delay the onset of diabetes. Other studies that were published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and the Journal of The American Heart Association are supporting the idea that drinking tea may help in recovery after a heart attack.
